Sir Paul joined his daughter Stella and her husband Alasdhair Willis for an evening at The Cow, a Notting Hill pub in West London. According to an onlooker at the pub, Sir Paul enjoyed several pints of Guinness with his family:
"They were all being very affectionate and supportive. There was the occasional ripple of laughter from the table. It wasn't all doom and gloom."
After spending three hours at the pub, the trio retired to the Willis's nearby terrace house. Sir Paul emerged a couple of hours later, eyes red and glazed, and hailed a cab back to his own home in St. John's Wood, North London. Sir Paul is said to look emotionally drained and cut a lonely and disheveled figure as he walked last few hundred yards home alone in the early hours of the morning.
