2006-Nov-01: A Little Help from Linda's Best Friend

Linda McCartney's best friend, Carla Lane, wants to put an end the rumors that claim that Linda was unhappy during her marriage to Sir Paul. The rumors began to surface last week when it was reported that another friend of Linda's, Peter Cox, had 20 hours of recordings of Linda discussing her ideas and life that he had compiled during visits to the McCartney home. Mr. Cox was Linda's co-author of the book Linda McCartney's Home Cooking. It was feared that these tapes might be used against Sir Paul during the divorce proceedings, however Mr. Cox has assured Sir Paul that he will not go public with the details of the tapes (see October 27) .

Meanwhile, during a taping of BBC's Radio 4 Woman's Hour program, Carla Lane firmly stated that Linda never suffered any abuse by Sir Paul during their marriage:

"It's just a load of rubbish. All I say is, if Paul did anything that was not nice, Linda would have told me, and she never did. Linda told me all things. I mean, if he had a little mood she would say 'oh, he's in a mood', you know. But she never did say anything that gave me the impression that she didn't care about him."
