2006-Nov-05: Did Sir Paul Buy the Linda Tapes?

According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, on Wednesday morning Sir Paul met Linda's close friend and literary agent, Peter Cox at Eat in Soho Square, a Central London cafe. Customers in the cafe claim they were astonished that Sir Paul didn't seem to care that were able to overhear their conversation. According to one customer:

"Everyone recognized him. There was a bearded guy waiting and they took a table next to me. Paul wasn't worried about who was listening or he wouldn't have spoken the way he did. He started off talking about what great kids he had but the subject soon changed to Heather and that was when he became agitated and upset. I remember him saying that all she thought about was money and that she had asked for £80 million ($197 million). He said something like, 'She is going to take me for £80 million because we now know it's for £80 million. All she thinks about is dollars'. He even drew dollar signs to emphasize it."

The customer claims that Sir Paul repeatedly described Heather as a liar. The customer heard Sir Paul say:

"Everyone knows she is a liar, she even lied in her autobiography. Everybody knows that."

The article reports that Sir Paul gave Mr. Cox $500,000 to buy the 20 hours of Linda's audio recordings that Mr. Cox made while co-authoring the Linda McCartney's Home Cooking book back in 1989. Photographs published in British newspaper The Mail On Sunday show Mr. Cox arriving at the cafe carrying a large envelope which they believe contained the 15 audio cassettes of Linda's recordings. Sir Paul was photographed leaving the cafe with the envelope half an hour later.
