Sir Paul received a a 10-minute standing ovation this evening when he took his seat in the dress circle at New York's Carnegie Hall. The cheering started as soon as Sir Paul, dressed in a dark business suit and white shirt, was spotted making his way to his first-tier seat. Fans chanted "Pa-a-ul, Pa-a-UL" and waved white sheets bearing messages that read: "We love you, Paul" and "Paul, you hold our hearts." Sir Paul acknowledged the cheers at regular intervals. He waved to the fans and bowed sometimes Oriental–style with palms together in front of his face, and sometimes swami-style, with one hand undulating toward the floor below. Sir Paul was surrounded by his guests who included Alec Bladwin, Elvis Constello, Conan O'Brien and Jerry Seinfeld.The Carnegie Hall program was the same as the November 3d world premiere at London's Royal Albert Hall. The first half of the concert featured a series of McCartney songs performed by a quintet in a classical style. The second half of the concert presented Sir Paul's new classical work Ecce Cor Meum, performed by the Orchestra of St. Luke's, the Concert Chorale of New York and the American Boy Choir. Sir Paul was seen nodding and clapping throughout the performances. At the end of the program, the audience was showered with white paper hearts that cascaded from the ceiling.
At the end of the performance, Sir Paul joined the musicians on-stage. He thanked the audience and the performers, whom he mentioned by name. He was presented with so many bouquets of flowers that he joked that he felt "like a florist."
