In Syracuse, New York, the Post Standard published an interview with Laurence Juber who was in town for a performance at the Syracuse Center for the Arts. He recalled the time he spent (from 1978-1981) as Wings lead guitarist:
"I don't get tired of talking about it. It was a remarkable period of my life. I like to think of it like this: I got my bachelor's degree in music from London University and my master's degree in music from McCartney's University. The business of music. The process of getting out and touring. And, probably as much as anything else, Paul and Linda had that amazing relationship. It was not just a band. It was a family."
He describes Sir Paul as a musical genius:
"In the studio, you never knew what he'd walk in with. He was a creative artist. Magical things would happen. Some of his work from that period stands up with the best of his career. Also, while it was happening, you knew that you were a part of history."
Mr. Juber talked about the time Sir Paul and Linda returned from a trip to France where they saw the Mills Brothers perform in a cabaret. It inspired Sir Paul to write a tribute song, My Baby's Request:
"They were big in the '30s, but Paul was taken by them. There was one place in the song where he wanted a solo, but not a guitar solo. That wouldn't fit the style. So Paul decides a trombone solo would fit. I told him that one of London's best trombone players happened to be in the next room (at Abbey Road studios). He said no. He wanted to work the mini-Moog (synthesizer) on it, to sound like a trombone solo. I thought that was odd. Then I thought back to Abbey Road when he used the full Moog. He knew how to be different."
