Yoko Ono And Sean Lennon On Tour

NEW YORK TIMES (May 16, 1996) - Yoko Ono, flamekeeper of the spirit and music of John Lennon, has a new partner: their son, Sean Lennon, 20. They have been making music together publicly since February, and on Tuesday night, they played to a packed room at Irving Plaza on Irving Place, along with Lennon's band, Ima.

When it was first proposed that mother and son collaborate for Ms. Ono's "Rising" album last year, she hesitated. "Sean said, `Come on, Mom,' " Michael Phillips, her assistant, said Wednesday. "She was worried. They had such a good mother-son relationship, and she didn't want to jeopardize it by working together. If you use studio musicians and you don't like them, you can always get someone new, but you can't do that with a son."sk now of that. Ms. Ono and Lennon leave Friday for a tour of Amsterdam, Milan, Paris, Berlin, Hamburg and London. Then they will go to San Francisco and wind up in Japan. On July 6, they will perform at Summerstage in Central Park.

"I'm a very lucky mother to be able to have musical talks with my son as a friend and colleague," Ms. Ono said Wednesday.
