Sir Paul may soon qualify for an Oscar nomination! According to Daily Variety, the film I Am Sam with it's all-Beatles soundtrack of 17 cover versions of Beatles tunes will have an Oscar qualifying run in Los Angeles beginning on December 28. The soundtrack is scheduled for release on January 8. The first single from the film will be Rufus Wainwright's version of Across the Universe. The second single will most likely be Ben Harper's version of Strawberry Fields. Other tracks include Eddie Vedder's You've Got to Hide Your Love Away, the Wallflowers' I'm Looking Through You, Sheryl Crow singing Mother Nature's Son, and Ben Folds performing Golden Slumbers. Daily Variety claims that this is one of the most ambitious soundtrack projects in recent years and quotes V2 president Andy Gershon as saying: "I don't think music determines whether a film grosses $ 20 million or $ 30 million, but this music complements the emotions of the movie. The soundtrack's success depends to a degree on the success of the film, but it still has to be a great record."
