Updated May 14. Sir Paul, Madonna, Sting and Harrod's owner Mohammed al-Fayed are said to be competing for the purchase a $7 million castle in Scotland. Sir Paul feels the castle would provide a perfect, private getaway spot for him. Amhuinnsuidhe Castle and the surrounding 50,000 acres on the Isle of Harris are being sold by hard cider millionaire Jonathan Bulmer, who once described it as "the loveliest place on earth." It was built in 1868 by the Earl of Dunmore, whose wife helped develop the Harris Tweed industry.According to the estate agent, "There will be a lot of personalities interested in Amhuinnsuidhe because it is a trophy estate. Estates like this rarely come on to the market. I have no doubt that it will well exceed its asking price of pounds 4.5million and will more likely fetch around pounds 6million. It has great stalking and fishing - and the castle has views to die for."
The May 14 issue of the Daily Telegraph now quotes the estate agent as saying, "These stories have been hopelessly exaggerated. The estate has not even been put on the market yet. When it is launched, we will wait and see."
