2002-Jun-26: Uninvited But Understanding

The Express is reporting today that McCartney family friend, Carla Lane, who describes Linda as her "dearest friend - no one understood me like her" was not invited to Sir Paul's wedding.   However, Ms. Lane says there are no hard feelings:

"I couldn't have gone.  I wasn't invited but we have a sort of understanding that only deep friends have. I don't need an invitation to his wedding to be his friend.

"He's often in contact, leaving lovely messages such as: 'I've got a smashing recipe for mayonnaise, do you want it?'  I didn't send them a present but I will send them all my good wishes. Heather is a lovely girl and I wish them all the happiness in the world."

Meanwhile, Ms. Lane is "totally desperate" to raise funds for her West Sussex animal sanctuary, Animaline,  which serves as a home for 800 birds and animals.  Although she is one of Britain’s most successful writers in television comedy, her work at the sanctuary has prevented her from completing scripts and now she is facing financial crisis.  She explains:

 "People see my big house and think I don't need the money but what can I do, put a sign up outside saying: Bought house when rich. No longer rich?"
