2002-Jul-15: "Back in the U.S. Tour" Announced

Updated July 17,19 & 23.  Tomorrow afternoon, Geoff Baker will announce that in September Sir Paul will return to the United States for another 22 concert appearances.  Once again, Sir Paul will be joined on stage by Rusty Anderson and Brian Ray on guitars, Abe Laboriel Jr. on drums and Wix Wickens on keyboards.   In a news release, Sir Paul stated:

"This band is too good to be just put up on a shelf.  We're having too much fun to want to stop playing now.  I just like doing it, and whenever I go out on tour it's exciting to stick a few things in that I haven't done before, just 'cause then it's sort of like...There's sort of a nervous edge to it, which is quite cool.

"I'm excited to be starting up again in Milwaukee. They're a loud crowd there and the beer's good too.  I'm looking forward to this gig because I've never played any show in Oklahoma before. We didn't do it with The Beatles, nor with Wings, but we're on our way there now.

The last time we played Atlantic City, with The Beatles, we only did about a dozen songs in the set. I hope the crowd this time around enjoys this somewhat-extended show.

"I never played in Hartford with either the Beatles or with Wings, so I reckon
 it's been long enough for me and the town to get it together. Sorry about the wait."

Geoff Baker added:

"We didn't know we were doing this, but in the last week of the spring tour, McCartney got that look in his eyes, a twinkle.I knew he was up to something.   A month ago, he said 'Let's do it again.' It's like he's a kid. He truly enjoys what he's doing.

"This is a different show.  There will be different songs, a lot of Beatles songs.  He's come to terms with the fact that that's what he is.  Once a Beatle, always a Beatle. "

During the first leg of the tour, Sir Paul drew criticism this year the high prices of his concert tickets.  When asked about this recently by the Dallas Morning News, Sir Paul replied:

 "We're selling out concerts in 17 minutes, so somebody must think the prices are reasonable.  We're not twisting anyone's arm."
