2003-Apr-18: Biking through Hove

In Britain today, the newspapers printed photos of Sir Paul and Heather's seaside bike ride through Hove.  It seems the couple were riding their mountain bikes in a no-cycle zone.  According to an onlooker:

"They rode straight past the signs saying no cycling and looked like they didn't have a care in the world.   They rode straight past the signs warning of pounds 500 fines.  They weren't in a hurry to go anywhere.

"Sir Paul was obviously enjoying himself - he was smiling at his wife while they rode along.  They didn't seem to be in a hurry to get anywhere, they went the length of the prom very slowly.  Maybe they didn't know you're not supposed to ride a bike there but people have been fined for it."

Sir Paul, dressed casually in a sweatshirt, shorts, and sandals, was recognized by many seaside walkers.  Heather wore pink pedal pushers, a blue jacket , and a large floppy hat.  The couple cycled along the Brighton promenade to the pier before stopping for a cold drink and a snack at a sea front cafe.
