Today's Daily Mail reports that Sir Paul had reservations about performing in the Live 8 concert. After two pervious affronts ( the faulty microphone at the 1985 Live Aid concert and being told last November that he was too old to sing on the Band Aid single, but he could play his bass) Sir Paul insisted that he would participate, only if he was allowed to open and close the Hyde Park concert. Otherwise, Sir Paul told the Live 8 organizers that he would need to "think seriously" about taking part in the event. The organizers agreed, however a Live 8 source told the Daily Mail:
"Some of the more fragile egos are upset. Bono, in particular, was quick to demand a share of the opening number and sees what he has done politically over the years as a bit more relevant to Live 8 than what Paul has to offer. Remember, these are the biggest rock stars around. Whatever order they sing in there is going to be friction."
Last evening, Sir Paul's spokesman told reporters:
"Bob (Geldof) asked him if he would do it, and he is delighted to be taking part in such an important event."
