On March 3d, Sir Paul a letter to Janet Napolitano, the governor of Arizona, asking her to oppose the building of an animal testing lab. The drug developer Covance Inc. plans to build a 400,000-square-foot facility for clinical animal testing Chandler, Arizona. In his letter, Sir Paul explains that "Arizona has a special place in my heart," since it is on his ranch in Arizona ranch where he spent his final days with Linda before her death in 1998:
"Arizona has a special place in my heart. It is where Linda loved to ride and it is where she lived her last days on our ranch. Linda was a champion for animals so it is for her and for all of us who want to protect animals from harm that I am writing to ask you not to let Covance, an animal testing laboratory, set up shop in Chandler."
A spokeswoman for the governor said that, "It's a situation that the governor's office will continue to monitor."
