This year's annual Adopt-A-Minefield gala has been canceled. The fundraising event, scheduled to take place on October 11 in Los Angeles, California was canceled after Sir Paul announced that he would not attend this year. In a statement McCartney said:
"While I continue to be committed to Adopt-A-Minefield and its critical mission, given the current circumstances, I will not be able to attend the gala this year."
Sir Paul's spokesman, Stuart Bell, said that Sir Paul will make a donation to the charity to compensate for the cancellation. Mr. Bell declined to comment on the exact sum, but it is reported that Sir Paul has donated $2.8 million (£1.6 million) to the landmine charity.
