2006-Sep-14: Sir Paul's Lodge Offer Denied

The secluded timber lodge on the grounds of Sir Paul's Woodlands Farm in Brede Lane, Peasmarsh, near Rye, East Sussex is still in peril. Sir Paul offered to demolish a three-bedroom detached house and two agricultural barns on his country estate to save his log cabin which he claims he needs "for privacy, seclusion and security". (See August 22). The planning council, however, declined to approve the scheme. The council continued to refuse him retrospective planning permission for the log structure because they claim it harms the landscape quality of the High Weald area of outstanding natural beauty.

Sir Paul was not present at the meeting. The photographs and drawings of the site Sir Paul submitted to the council failed to satisfy some members of the impact the changes would have. According to Counselor David Vereker:

“If we go along this route we will be creating a very, very difficult precedent.”

Head of planning Frank Rallings said a site inspection will be arranged before the next planning committee on October 12.
