Sir Paul's actress cousin, Kate Robbins, has told the Sunday Telegraph that they are working together on a stage show inspired by Sir Paul' childhood in Liverpool. According to Miss Robbins:
"It is based on Paul's classical work The Liverpool Oratorio. Paul will approve every note as musical director. The project has been delayed by divorce worries."
The 47-year-old actress is working on the musical with writer Steve Brown. Like Sir Paul, Miss Robbins is also experiencing marital problems. Last February, she separated from her husband of 19 years, composer Keith Atack. The couple have three children.
Sir Paul and his cousin Kate have enjoyed a long and close relationship. According to Miss Robbins:
"Paul is a real family man. He bought me my first piano and helped me get my first record deal. We are known as the Liverpool showbiz mafia. In our home growing up, even the sewing machine was a Singer."
Earlier this month, Miss Robbins received a best supporting actress award at the Monaco Film Festival for her role in the film Fated. She received a musical congratulations from Sir Paul in a message he recorded on video:
"I watched you grow up since you were a little sproggling. Now, not only are you talented, you have real heart."
Although the West End theaters of London will no doubt compete to stage the new musical, it is expected that Sir Paul may decide to premiere it in his home town in 2008, Liverpool's year as the European Capital of Culture.
