It is official. Sir Paul's next album will be released by Starbuck's new music label Hear Music. The announcement was made today during the coffee company's annual meeting in Seattle, Washington. Sir Paul appeared via satellite from London. He said his decision to move from Capital to Starbucks reflected the changing nature of music marketing. U.S. album sales are down nearly 17 percent from last year, as a result of the competition from Internet piracy and competing media. Sir Paul said that he was impressed with Starbuck's marketing plan to sell it through its 13,500 outlets that serve 44 million customers a week. In addition, by working directly with a retail outlet, Sir Paul will gain higher royalties. Sir Paul stated:
"For me, the great thing is the commitment and the passion and the love of music, which as an artist is good to see. It's a new world now and people are thinking of new ways to reach the people, and for me that's always been my aim."
Sir Paul plans to release his Hear Music album of new material in early June. The album will first be sold through Starbucks stores. A few weeks later, it will be available online and at traditional music retailers.
