2007-Apr-01: Break-in at the McCartney Estate

A deranged middle-aged Beatles fan has been arrested after breaking into Sir Paul's Sussex estate yelling: "I must get to him!" Around 1:30 Friday afternoon, the man drove past the estate's security patrol, through the gates, and across the grounds in an effort to reach the McCartney home. One source reports:

"He drove down the drive past security at speed and was shouting out a lot of things. But he made it clear that he wanted to get up to the house and to Paul. Luckily the guards managed to close the last security gate before he got up to the main house. He just shouted at them about wanting to get in. Then he tried to drive around that over the fields. But the cops turned up and that forced him to flee."

The man was arrested after a three-mile chase. According to a Sussex police spokesman:

"We received a call from a security officer at Peasmarsh and later arrested a man at his home address. He was initially arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and failing to stop when challenged by police. He was later detained under the Mental Health Act and is not facing criminal charges."

Sir Paul was not at home at the time of the incident. He was having lunch in town that day.
