Sir Paul and his home town of Liverpool have jointly received an Enjoy England Awards for Excellence for 2007. Sir Paul won one of 16 "Gold" awards for his Outstanding Contribution to Tourism. Previous winners of the award include Her Majesty the Queen, Judith Chalmers OBE, Harry Potter and Manchester United Football Club. The Enjoy England Awards for Excellence recognize the quality and diversity of the nations tourism product. England Marketing Advisory Board chairman Hugh Taylor stated:
Sir Paul McCartney has done great things for his home city of Liverpool, which has been completely transformed and seen visitor numbers more than double in the last five years. For many visitors, the emotional draw is that it is the home of the Beatles, and while Sir Paul modestly describes himself as 'just this kid from Liverpool', his influence on the success of Liverpool's tourism cannot be understated. He remains one of the most successful musicians and composers in popular music history."
Sir Paul is delighted with the honor:
Im honored to receive this award, particularly because of the Liverpool connection. Its great to think that in some small way Ive done something to help tourism for the place of my birth, which Im so proud of.
