            Zoff bei den Rest-Beatles

            Nur Eiapopeia? Pure Freude,
           wieder zusammenzuarbeiten?
           Nein, die drei überlebenden
           Beatles haben sich auch ge-
           gezofft, als sie ihre bald
           erscheinenden Anthologie-CDs
           zusammenstellten.
            Es ging um das Lennon-Demo
"Free As A Bird", das die
           Herren zur Single ergänzen
           wollten. Paul McCartney be-
           stand auf George Martin als
           Produzenten, Harrison wollte
           seinen Wilbury-Kumpel Jeff
           Lynne. "Ich hatte Angst",
           sagt Paul, "daß die beiden
           sagen würden, 'wir machen's
so' - und ich wäre ganz
           draußen."

Translation:
Only pure pleasure to work together again?
No, the three surviving Beatles also had
quarrels when they compiled their soon-to-be-
    issued Anthology CDs.
It's been about the Lennon-Demo "Free As A Bird"
which they wanted to complete to a single.
Paul McCartney insisted in George Martin as producer,
Harrison wanted his Wilbury mate Jeff Lynne.
"I was afraid" says Paul, "of the others telling me
'we'll do it this way' and I would remain out of
    decisions.

            Beatles-Dreh in Liverpool

            In Liverpool grasiert wie-
           der die Beatlemania. Zumin-
           dest kurzzeitig wurden Teile
           der englischen Stadt wieder
           so hergerichtet, wie sie zu
           Fab Four-Zeiten aussahen.
            Für den Videodreh zu dem
           neuen Song der Beatles "Free
As A Bird" wurden keine Ko-
           sten und Mühen gescheut.
           Penny Lane wurde wieder ver-
           schönert, und etliche alte
           Songs dienten als Inspira-
           tion für Szenen. Der legen-
           däre Friseurladen "Biolet-
           ti's" spielt auch eine Rol-
           le. Bandpublizist Geoff Ba-
           ker: "Es war großartig. Ein
           Zeitsprung."

Translation:
     In Liverpool, Beatlemania rages again.
At least temporarily, parts of the
English city were prepared to look the
     same as during Fab-Four times.
For the shooting of the video to the new
song of the Beatles "Free As A Bird", neither
expense nor effort were spared. Penny Lane
was brightened up again, and lots of old
songs were used to inspire scenes. The legendary
barber shop "Bioletti's" was also important.
Band publicist Geoff Baker: "It was great.
     A time-warp."

                  ------------------ 5/7
The Beatles and Queen are to battle for
top spot in Britain's pop charts with
singles by singers who have both died.

Next month the three surviving Beatles

years and it includes a song by John
Lennon, shot dead in New York in 1980.

Now Queen are to take on the Beatles
with an album and single recorded by
their lead singer Freddie Mercury just
before he died of AIDS in 1991.
Guitarist Brian May says, "By the time

been told he would never make it."

Sean Ono Lennon, son of the Beatles

The heir to his father's multi-million

his mother, Yoko Ono, looked on.

But Lennon is finding it difficult to
cope with the legacy of his famous
father, who was gunned down in New York
15 years ago. He says, "He overwhelms
our lives. Everywhere we go we are
looked at in terms of him."

                  BEATLEMANIA RETURNS
                  ------------------ 7/7
Beatlemania is back - publishers are
scrambling over themselves to buy up a
new book. They are chasing the world-
wide rights for the Beatles story told
in the words of surviving members Paul
 McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo
Starr, and John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono

One editor, Brian Roylance of Genesis
Publications reveals, "It is like the
Beatles family album with 200,000 words
of text in their own words."

Interest at the Frenkfurt Book Fair has
been enormous. The book is being
published next Autumn with a print run
of 1.5 million copies selling at $37.

David Bowie and John Lennon are just
two of the many celebrities who claim
to have had close encounters with UFOs.

John Lennon was once buzzed by a flying
saucer on the balcony of his New York
apartment. "It looked like a flattened
cone with a brilliant light on top,"
says his assistant May Pang, who saw it
 too.

Bowie, who starred in The Man Who Fell

Fifteen years after John Lennon was
murdered outside his New York apartment
the Beatles are about to release "The
Beatles Anthology" - 150 tracks with
new songs, dozens of unheard versions
 of Beatles classics, studio sessions
 and home recordings.

The Beatles remain the world's biggest-
selling group with one billion CDs,
tapes and records. Last year they were
 the third-biggest showbusiness earners
in the United States after Steven
 Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey.

The first of the CDs is released in
November to coincide with a TV series.

Fifteen years after John Lennon was
 murdered, the three surviving Beatles
returned recently to the famed Abbey
Road recording studios in London. The
 trio ruled out a live-performance
reunion but they did record two new
songs with Lennon, using tapes provided
 by his widow Yoko Ono.

 Details of the much-heralded reunion
were given in the magazine Studio Sound

 session producer george Martin replaced
the £500,000 worth of modern equipment
with a 1970s mixing desk. The first
collection of 50 songs on 3 compact

Four could be singing new songs
together in a six-hour TV programme,
 the Beatles Anthology. Lennon's widow

the same special effects as in Forrest

 performing two unreleased songs written
and recorded by Lennon in the 1970s.
