                       ILLNESS RUMOURS  
 Linda McCartney's absence as her       
 husband met the Queen of England has   
 fuelled speculation she may still be   
 ill.                                   
                                        
 Linda was a notable absentee when the  
 Queen was shown around the Institute   
 For Performing Arts in Liverpool.      
                                        
 She has not been seen in public for    
 six months, following emergency breast 
 cancer surgery last December. Doctors  
 said the operation was successful and  
 Linda's assistants insist the reclusive
 photographer is immersing herself in   
 work - compiling a book of photographs 
 entitled Roadworks.

Having tough luck: The beautiful Georgian-style house which Paul
McCartney selected for his Liverpool School of Performing Arts (LIPA)
was a mere ruin. While new walls have been put up, they need a
steel corset to support them. The cost for the renovation:
$6 million! So the school, barely opened by the Queen, has got
serious financial troubles.. According to a spokesman, however, the
existence of the school is not threatened. An electronics firm is
sponsoring LIPA.

 Two robbers who turned supergrass      
 spilled out details of the murder plot 
 to astonished British police officers. 
 Scotland Yard is contacting McCartney, 
 53, to warn him of the evil plan and   
 advise him on tightening security.     
                                        
 McCartney has been very security-      
 conscious since police foiled a bid to 
 kidnap him and his wife Linda in 1984.

 Kinks singer Ray Davies and former Jam 
 frontman Paul Weller were two of the   
 first people to offer their services.  
 Lou Reed has offered to fly over from  
 America to give a lecture, as has      
 E-Street drummer Max Weinberg. Producer
 Eddie Kramer, who worked with Jimi     
 Hendrix, will also pass on his advice.

    studio musician served as a guitarist for wings between '78 and '81, and was

    His solo CD, "LJ" (Rough Trade) is easy listening.  Acoustic guitar, bass, 
    percussion; nothing else.  The man once again doesn't push himself into the 
    foreground, but puts his manual skill in the service of the songs.  Nice.

before her doctors, that she was suffering from breast cancer. She
kept it a secret from her ex-Beatle husband Paul. She did not tell
him right away in order to avoid him getting too worried.
Paul lost his mother at the age of 14. She also had breast cancer
and he suffered greatly from the early death of his mother.
Linda had hoped that her strict vegetarian diet
would help her against the tumor. Now she is recovering from the
operation.

  the late rock & roll star, and also owns the rights to Holly's songs.  But 
  McCartney was too busy with the Beatles documentary and Anthology.  Instead 
  of him, The Crickets, Los Lobos, Steve Earle and Mark Knopfler participated.
